This book is part of the Land of Elyon series by Patrick Carman. I was disappointed with this book, and with the series as a whole. The first book was pretty good, I enjoyed reading it, but the last three just got too caught up in the formulaic fantasy for pre-teens story line, although the main character, Alexa, didn't have a love interest, which is unusual with a female protagonist and these kinds of stories. I don't think that Carman meant to write sequels when he wrote the first one, but did anyway. Luckily, the fantasy genre allows him to do some crazy things to make the story work, although I question if it really does.
Bailey is excited to read it, he's enjoyed the other ones of the series. I hope he like this one too.
